  1. Q:  In his career Marshall McLuhan had a meteoric 
  2. rise to pop icon status and then experienced an 
  3. abrupt descent. Today, 15 years after his death, 
  4. there‚Äôs a resurgence of interest in McLuhan. Can 
  5. you explain why?

  7. A:  Well I will take a stab at it. I think that what 
  8. people recognized intuitively but did not put a 
  9. name on was the fact that Marshall was not an 
  10. analyst, not a historian, not a sociologist, but a 
  11. poet. And what he was delivering to the world was 
  12. a set of metaphors that we had to wrestle with, 
  13. that worked at the essential metaphoric level of 
  14. poetry, meaning he had had a vision of the way in
